A monoplace HBOT chamber is designed to saturate the body with 100% pure oxygen delivered at very high pressure. There is room enough for a single person in these chambers (as the name suggests) and, as a patient, all you have to do is lay back and relax and let the oxygen do its work.

It’s important to understand exactly how these HBOT chambers work to make sure you can make the choices to get the best treatment possible.

What Can You Expect from Monoplace HBOT Chamber Treatment?

A single person can comfortably receive treatment in a monoplace chamber and expect privacy, quicker treatment times, individualized procedures, and immediate support from the staff.

Patients will be required to wear special clothing in these chambers because the pressures are so high that this is a simple safety precaution. It does, however, also mean that patients won’t be able to bring books, phones, and other items into the chamber for the same reason.

The chamber walls are a clear, durable acrylic, which is why they are classified as a hard-side chamber (more on this later). Patients can easily see through the walls, which helps minimize the feelings of anxiety and claustrophobia that some people may experience. It also, of course, makes it possible to provide entertainment on TV screens just outside the chamber.

Monoplace chambers are also equipped with simple and effective high-tech communications systems, so if a patient has any questions or concerns, they can quickly connect with one of our specialists.

The most important benefit of these chambers is the ability to individualize each procedure to the needs of the patient. In other words, based on your circumstances, it’s possible to change several elements of your procedure to help you see results as soon as possible.

FDA-Approved Treatments

Monoplace chambers have been approved by the FDA for a number of treatments, including:

  • Air/gas embolism (bubbles in your blood vessels)
  • Anemia (exceptional blood loss)
  • Thermal Burns
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning/Smoke inhalation
  • Diabetic foot ulcers, retinopathy, nephropathy
  • Decompression sickness
  • Clostridial myositis and myonecrosis (gas gangrene)
  • Infections (in the skin or bone)
  • Ischemia (inadequate blood supply to parts of the body)
  • Skin grafts and flaps that could suffer tissue death
  • Intracranial abscess
  • Necrotizing soft tissue infections
  • Delayed radiation injury
  • Idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss

There are also many off-label treatments that are showing promising results. Hyperbaric oxygen in monoplace chambers is being used to treat several internal or neurological conditions as well as injuries, skin conditions, and disabilities.

The Benefits of a Hard-Side Chamber

Monoplace chambers are categorized as hard-side chambers because they are engineered to withstand pressures up to 3.0 atmospheres. They are specifically designed and constructed to allow us to precisely control the pressure in the chamber to ensure each patient gets the most effective treatments.

While you rest inside the chamber, breathing in the pure oxygen, the pressure can be smoothly increased to 2.4 – 3.0 ata, which is the level you have to reach for the oxygen to saturate the entire body.

How do we know this?

Because we can measure the level of oxygen in the body by looking at the arterial blood gasses. At these pressures, blood oxygen can reach 1,737 mmHg. At normal air pressure, the level of blood oxygen is 159mmHg. (It has to be said that in a soft chamber, the level of oxygen is not much higher than normal air pressure.)

In summary, monoplace hard-side HBOT chambers can provide:

  • 100% pure oxygen at 3.0 ata
  • Efficient wound healing
  • Uncontaminated oxygen
  • A wide range of FDA-approved treatments
  • Dozens of off-label treatments

There is an extensive collection of scientific case studies backing up hyperbaric oxygen as an important medical tool, which is why many treatments may even be covered by your insurance.
