How Does Hyperbaric Oxygen Work?

At Aalto Hyperbaric, you will receive treatment inside of a single-person tube-like chamber. You simply lay down on a sliding tray that moves in an out of the tube, and one of our technicians will ensure you are relaxed and comfortable as you slide in and begin the treatment.

Our chambers are made of state-of-the-art clear acrylic, so you can always see outside of the chamber. During HBOT, you simply lie down and breathe the 100% pure oxygen inside the tube as the pressure is gradually increased.

While the treatment is progressing, you can just relax and watch a movie on the TV above the chamber or listen to your favorite music. You can even take a nap if you like.

You may feel a slight pressure in your ears during the compression and decompression of the chamber, much like you would in an airplane as it takes off. This sensation is quick, though, and once you reach the treatment pressure, you won’t feel anything else the rest of the time.

The session can last from 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the condition we are treating.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy works by providing several key benefits:

HBOT brings oxygen-rich plasma to tissue starved for oxygen to heal wounds. A wound can damage the body’s blood vessel and causes the tissue to swell. The pressure in the HBOT chamber increases the amount of oxygen in the blood which can reduce the swelling and tissue damage in your body.

HBOT helps block harmful bacteria and strengthens the body’s immune system. HBOT increases oxygen concentration in the tissues which helps the body resist infection. It also stimulates the growth of white blood cells in your body, which help fight off infections.

HBOT promotes the creation of collagen (connective tissue) and skin cells. It does so by supporting new blood vessel formation. Additionally, it stimulates cells to produce certain compounds, such as vascular endothelial growth elements. These elements draw and stimulate endothelial tissues, which are essential for recovery.

During HBOT, your blood carries the excess oxygen through the body, infusing the injured cells with oxygen in order to kickstart recovery. Once the session is done, you might feel lightheaded.

Monoplace Chamber
